About The Covina Center for the Performing Arts
The Covina Center for the Performing Arts strives to nurture appreciation and enjoyment of the creative arts in the San Gabriel Valley as they lead the continuing cultural revitalization and preservation of Covina's historic downtown. The Covina Center for the Performing Arts began in the hearts of longtime Covina residents Chris and Retha Champion. Loving both the arts and the community they call home, the Champions saw past the faded facade of the old Covina Theater. They imagined how the historic site, the former Covina Valley Playhouse, could be transformed into both a more fitting home. To fulfill their vision, the Champions purchased the theater building in 2001. The Champion Family Foundation, founded in 2000, has provided crucial financial support to the nascent nonprofit endeavor. Since then, they have been joined by civic leaders, business owners and generous community members who share and support their vision and love for the arts, theater and Covina itself.
