Thank you all for your patience and understanding regarding The SAE’s plan to reopen school in the fall. As we’re all aware, recommendations and guidelines tend to shift as we learn more about the progression of the Coronavirus. Last week we shared our initial plan for the reopening of school; however, with the recent spike in confirmed COVID-19 cases in L.A. County, The SAE’s COVID Coalition reevaluated the plan to reopen consistent with our Guiding Objectives, which are to:
Observe Federal, State, and Local guidance, to create health and safety policies for The SAE Community; and Secure stakeholder data and institutional knowledge to execute an action plan for implementing and communicating SAE Community health and safety guidelines.
At this time, SAE Leadership has decided to follow a more cautious path and implement a Flexible Phased Return. This four-phase approach will allow us to move from one phase to the next in response to the most current information about Covid-19 and health and safety guidelines from the County Department of Public Health. As we adjust to the changing situation in the coming months, we will build increased levels of safety, equity and support for our students and school community.
Over the past few days, we have stepped back from Phase 3 to Phase 2. We will continue to evaluate the situation and communicate with SAE families as we implement the phased return guided by Federal, State, and Local health agencies. We think it is important to be responsive to the changing public health crisis and to do everything in our power to educate our children while protecting their health and safety. We will strive to have timely and transparent communication and give our families ample notice before moving from one Phase to another.
All The Best,
Mr. Jon Gundry
